Cover Me Bad

Jrd is raking, Opop is laundrinating, so I ran to my guitar to do something productive.

I love Jeff Buckley’s version of Hallelujah and have always wanted to cover it. So, here it be.

Missouri Memories

I got some unexpected inspiration, combined with a sufficient amount of time with my guitar, to get a song recorded.

You may notice a dog and a train – it couldn’t be helped.

Please enjoy!

For Your Listening Pleasure!

Here is a re-recording of The Reds with our fantastic new mic. To be honest, with all of the moving and excitement around here lately, I haven’t practised much, but I’m hoping the clarity of the sound is make up for it.

Enjoy!

Ready, Set, Go?!

INVISIBLE_TEXT

Against my better judgement, I went out too late last night and didn’t reach the pillow until 2:30am. Since then and now, Darwin has been up much of the morning, allowing me a mere three hours sleep.

INVISIBLE_TEXT

I wouldn’t be worried usually, but today is not my average day. On this morning, I’m supposed to be prepping for the local fair, lunch, the beach, followed by a ride into the city, and the recording and post production of Flash Pulp.

Lastly and most importantly, my hubby needs some of my time to reconnect.

UPDATE: It’s looking mighty stormy, maybe it will rain – maybe we’ll have to try again tomorrow for all of the outdoor activities.

Rain and me are friends today.

Blast!

I made my best attempt at re-recording The Reds last night.  I continue to have a rotten time trying to make my guitar sound clean. Every trick I know can’t cover up my muddy guitar. The tools I need to fix the problem have been known for a while, but money continues to make what I need elusive.

My plan was to cut some clean guitar and vocal tracks, and then add some more bells and whistles with Fruity Loops. I may just have to sit on my hands a while longer, until the budget allows for more than life’s basics.

Working on My Fitness

I’ve been trying to find different ways to keep my mind of cigarettes. Exercise has been high on that list. It relaxes me, and makes me feel better about my choice to clean up the ol’ organs.

The following has been my main source for building my athletic ability. I recommend it highly.

Weekend Withdrawal

INVISIBLE_TEXT

Tomorrow is the last day I will ever smoke a cigarette. I’m not a social smoker, I’m the sort that after one puff, I can’t think of anything else.

INVISIBLE_TEXT

In preparation for this major change, I have also started walking daily, and drinking mostly water. I have been calorie counting for a while already, but without physical activity, it has been very slow moving.

INVISIBLE_TEXT

I’m optimistic that everything will go well though, and soon I will forget the nasty business of addiction.

INVISIBLE_TEXT

However, let me take this opportunity, to publicly pre-apologize to my family for any grumpiness that may ensue during this weekend’s withdrawal.

The picture for this post was taken moments ago, and is here for my future encouragement. Just a reminder that those pretty cigarettes can only leave behind a dirty mess. The last thing I want is fewer moments with my favorites.

R.E.S.P.E.C.T

Religion was a part of my life for a long time - comparatively to my lifespan. In fact, I thought it always would be. Then things changed, and I’m mighty pleased with my set of beliefs.

INVISIBLE_TEXT

I never sit down to write a song about a particular topic – if I feel like I have enough to say about a subject, I’ll start playing around.

INVISIBLE_TEXT

My problem is, now I have some songs written about my views on things, and don’t want to step on toes that brought me up differently and who bestowed those ideas with only the best of intentions.

INVISIBLE_TEXT

I’ve been considering adding a podcast element to the site, particularly around recording time.  I was hoping to include a description of the lyrics and their inspiration. The problem is, how does one explore their feelings with a song and then discuss those feelings without alienating listeners who have opposing views?

What To Do?

I’m in the middle of a new song, but I was thinking, so much has improved since I’ve started this writing process, I want to go back and apply what I’ve learned to my old songs.

Anyone have an opinion?

I was going through the oldies and there is a lot I would keep, but much about each that I would change. I’m kind of embarrassed thinking about how poorly I played back when. However, I think I’ll always feel somewhat unsatisfied and want to go back and alter what I’ve made, when time improves my understanding and skill.

Just wondering if I should write a few more before going back and messing around.
